I am still learning about the use of flash & rock art to highlight some of the fainter carvings, but the difference in those 2 shots of Spahill are amazing. Although not as much of a difference is the carving inside the church at Dean.One taken in normal room light, the carvings look faint, the other using the flash which lifts the carvings so much..

And again, minimalist. Nice one :)

One of the nice things about indoor RA that lends itself well to side flash is the lack of lichen, likewise the farmer's cover at Spahill.

Those licheny panels don't do it half as well out in the open, the lichen casts too heavy a shadow to show up the faint bits :(

(Still got the big lamp for old-times sake though)

I wonder what would turn up if everyone, every once in a while, flashed a lump of rock on their way past!
