Great find

close

Well done Ken on the Tinncarrig stone! Great work and I'm delighted it's still there.

I believe that it's one that should be 'rescued' from where it lies.

I had a similar experience at that site from the locals, though the younger folk were happy to ignore me in the main.

archaeology.ie shows 2 bullauns in the vicinity. Any sign of them? and save me the trek back to the unfriendliest place in Carlow.

Andy

Thanks :) I had just about given up hope of ever finding it, only I had an hour to spare and was very close by. It's not at all what I was looking to find, I seem to remember Chris Corlett had a pic of a thin pillar-like stone standing upright (though the guy next door said it fell over). It was only when I listened back to the talk I realised that the stone has more RA on the back as well!

No sign of any bullauns, unsurprisingly!

From talking to some locals over the past while it does seem that the musuems are actively interested in moving the more portable rock art of the area to either the Carlow or National museums, so catch them while they are still wild.

Have to say that's a motley little collection of stones gathered in one place. Goes to show that 'lost' stones can always be found again. Well done chaps! I'm thoroughly pissed off that I couldn't make it that day.

It really looks like you lot are having some serious fun over there...

You jammy sods!
I'm totally jealous :p

But enjoying the photos very much :)
