Although the carvings are not grouped within our usual area of interest, the cup and ring style, the carvings are interesting on various levels. I am fortunate to have seen the carvings in the flesh and the quality and freshness is very impressive. I find it intersting that we have carvings at Eggerness that not widely found around the uk, but i do believe the location of the carvings is important, the area of wigtownshire is and was a very religous area, a large number of pictish/christian crosses and carved stones. The site at Eggerness is also important for what must be a continunity of use when it comes to carvings. The site has various types of designs grouped within it, the carved horses, deer, and a really impressive stag, but also mixed amongs the animal carvings are the older cup and ring, spirals etc. This shows a place of great importance, over a large number of years, to the people that inhabited the land, or crossed the lands and seas.

ps..The carvings are Goatscrag are ones i am a little bit unsure about, very poor simple carvings, is that a case of old weathered carvings, or fakes who knows.

Same goes for the others near Edinburgh and Glen Domhain , of the three the Goatscrag looks the likeliest .
