While looking for a rock arty idea for an element in a painting wot I am making at the mo, I stumbled across the remarkable site of Eggerness and the breathtaking photos of it on this very site. Animal carvings! Would you Adam and Eve it! In Britain!!!!

As it happens the animal carvings designs don't 'fit' in my composition, but I thought I'd drawn everyone's attention to it
1. in case, like me, they'd missed Eggerness and
2. cos it's nearly X-mass and those animals are surely reindeer?

Hi Jane, not to presume here, but you may find some inspiration from a famous herd called the 'White Deer of Mallow'
This is a herd of white deer in Mallow Ireland that descend from a pair of stags that your own Queen Elizabeth the 1st gave to a landowner there over 400 years ago.
Do you know about them?

The panel of four horses is gorgeous in this extraodinarily richly decorated cave, bears, reindeer, panther and rhinocerous........

Umm, it's not megalithic, but it's prehistoric - this page ( http://directoradamcooley.angelfire.com/ ) but look for Blaze, the potsmoking deer. It's a strange film but 'cutting edge'.

When did the Black Elk die out, and does it ever feature on stone art? There was a program about them I might still be able to download, I think, said they died out from bad selective breeding criteria.
