I think you must have been just unlucky.
Unfortunately you get wasters everywhere.

I have visited this area many times and you rarely see anyone.It is certainly not an area known for its crime rates - in fact it's a bit posh around there!

I didn't see anyone at St Lythans on my (only) visit, but there was a carrier bag full of rubbish (mostly cans and tea-lights, but including a burnt fence post) to hoik out of the chamber at Tinkinswood.

We didn't see anyone either, but given the location it was obviously someone in a car who knew the carpark and certainly had the necessary "L" screwdriver and hammer. In other words, possibly someone who may trawl the area regularly, hence our warning.

But you're right, basically we were just unlucky :O(
