You can't have it both ways. How can you say that a physically observable alignment does not 'seem intentional' and then talk about something subjective as being 'obvious'?
Because I know what I'm talking about. Simple as. A bit like you saying:

"Every site has to be assessed on its own merits. If, once you've considered every site, there is a pattern then you have a general theory. If there isn't a pattern to particular aspects this does not make the observations at each site invalid - it just means there's no pattern in the data you've collected. You may get local patterns amongst monument types that are global."

To which I'd say, 'Well done - you're getting there."

To which I'd say, "I've always been there, wondering where everyone else is." :-)

If you agree that each site has to be taken on its own merits then you don't know what you're talking about in relation to a monument that you've not been to. Furthermore, if you acknowledge that local patterns can exist then you can't apply your vast knowledge of one area/country to another area/country you have little knowledge of. Simple As. :-)
