Hooray...someone who's actually out in the field doing real research and not just sat at a computer googleing and reading work carried out by others. Way to go Cerrig.

The suggestion of equidistance is not due to field work but sitting at home poring over a map with a ruler .

I don't know - the Coflien notes make it clear that quite a lot of fieldwork took place on site, presumably equipped with modern surveying equipment.

If the equidistance is only derived from map and ruler, I would be very sceptical because of the very very small scale of the map - unlikely to be bigger than 1/10000 and more likely 1/25000. The limitations of scale at such a scale are extreme. The thickness of the line on a map at that scale is a couple of metres across on the ground! At 1/10000 a point on a map might be 8 metres out on the ground.
