The chances of 5 prehistoric monuments ( the only 5 within the area ) forming 2 regular triangles , one inside the other , sharing the same centre line and the same base line are nil . The number of other points within the area that any of these monuments could have been sited on is huge , and if any of the outer corners was misplaced there would be no pattern . To put this in perspective , to win the lottery you need to pick 6 points out of a possible 50, there are far more than 50 possibilities in this area , there must be thousands . It cannot possibly be a coincidence .
While George is right that there is no precedent in the UK , this doesn't detract from it's authenticity , it simply makes this site unique , which it most certainly is , for many more reasons than is presented here.
By the way, the local who relayed the story of the midsummer myth was me, and the word I used was "distorted" not forked , but the flavour of it was understood I think.
But they are not regular triangles .
They are only two different points that are roughly equidistant and the two distances differ .
The distance from the undated cairn to Maen Llia is arguably similar to that of the undated ringwork bearing in mind that the diameter of the ringwork averages at 20m and the cairn 8.5m . Meaning the distance from the cairn to the earthwork can be considered to be as much as 330m or as little as 302 m .
The same applies to the undated platform which measuring 8x6 means that the distance could be considered to be between approx 147m to 123m ,which is quite a wide margin of error in such a distance .
The fact that there are no precedents is telling , although if you look hard enough they will be found but it doesn't indicate intentionality .
What is maybe more telling is what Gladman might experience if he measures the sites i.e. the map is not the territory . The measurements regardless of intentionality or likelihood are from a map , completely ignoring any change in contours ,it also entails the use of a 330m rope (any other suggestions ?) quite an achievement to make and keep taut but to what purpose ? erecting a standing stone and building a ringwork equidistant from a small cairn ? btw there is another monument in the area a possible recumbent stone near the road midway between Maen LLia and the ringwork .

I did say there are 5 monuments in the arrangement George , including the recumbent stone . The triangles are regular , and precise , as confirmed by measurement on the ground . There is more to the relative sizes that also link them all together. Your contention that this could be anything other than deliberate has little merit I believe , as all the monuments in the area are involved , there is no chance event here .
