Deafening silence

Hi, guys. What's happening here? I visited Carrowmore this summer and was quite overwhelmed by it. I was like a kid in a sweety shop. Everything about this site is in a different dimension to normal megalithic investigation. At Carrowmore you become immersed into a monumental landscape where every horizon has an ancient landmark, visible now, as it was perhaps six thousand years ago.

So, where is all the interest? Carrowmore is quite possibly the most important archeological site in Europe/World?

Anyway, I would expect to have found a lot more interest about it within this site.

Am I missing something, or can someone explain why this is?

Hi ftc

I never let the chance go by to remind people that the oldest known structure in Europe is at Carrowmore :-)

The main thing is that I am the only regular contributor here from Ireland, so it rearly gets a mention. I have loads of bits on it here: http://www.megalithomania.com/show/site/841 . One day I'll get together with the TMA Eds and sort out the individual monuments at Carrowmore on TMA, but at the moment it's a bit untidy :-) [note to self - I must do Loughcrew too]

I took Julian there back in May 2003 for his research for The Megalithic European and it blew his mind! Hence why there's such a big section dedicated to it and Knocknarea in the book. When people who've bought the book have had the chance to visit Ireland I suspect we'll see a lot more about Carrowmore (and Carrowkeel etc) here.

Welcome to TMA!

As a regular visitor to Carrowmore and Carrowkeel for the past twenty years or so, I think I preferred it when most of Irelands national monuments were for people to discover for themselves, rather than turn them into the commercialised tours, such as Newgrange and Knowth. I remember going to Newgrange and having to wait for more visitors to arrive so that we could do a tour. Carrowmore is all that follow that cow says it is and more. On my last couple of trips to Carrowmore thouh I am sorry to say I found this site also becoming more and more sanitized and commercial.

As 4W kinda hints, don't think for a mo that it's lack of interest or enthusiasm!

Suspect there's a lot 'in the same boat' as me - the visit to the area has always been getting closer!!!! And WILL happen (tho still don't know when!) & WILL include this amazing place....

love

I just wish I'd had more time there when I visited in 2003.

It was raining and the family were with me, so I snapped away like a man possessed and hoped I could remember enough later.

Could I just gently remind everyone of my weblog on the subject of Sligo and Meath, which also features quite a bit on Carrowmore?
