Walderslade Woods

F.A.O. Slumpy .

Gotta say Slumpy that ,IMHO the Walderslade Wood stones aren't man made rock art . Not all cup marks , like stone circles , are circular but these have very sharply defined skewed edges totally unlike cups . Very uncommon to find RA on vertical surfaces too. I don't know sarsen very well but would guess that these types of markings are not uncommon and seeing as sarsen is a type of sandstone are possibly solution holes .

Gotta agree with George. They're intriguing nonetheless, and it'd be good if you could get some better images to give us a better idea.

hmmm... I know what you mean about the cups; but the rings and associated lines here would certainly catch my eye...

The head honcho from Kent Heritage is winging her way thence as you read this, and she's excited on the back of a few photos, so we'll see.

Having only seen a couple of examples close up myself, I can't comment, and with the extremely mangrove holey stones around these, anything is possible.

I also don't claim or believe these stones are where they started either - the whole area was woodland until 30 years ago, and the roads used to be lined with sarsens dragged out of the way, so it's likely these just ended up being dumped here. Why there are two triangular stones on edge, I dunno. Maybe someone thought it looked good!

Finally got some feedback from Lis Dyson from Kent Heritage, who says she thinks they are authentic and is getting them put on the HER asap.

Poor woman, I have her chasing all over the place looking at odd sites and places I've noticed over the years :)
