Then there is The Circus at Bath, John Wood modelled it on Stanton Drew stone circle. and also Stukeley in his garden, retired to Licolnshire when he was mocked in London, and grew a 'tree circle' in his garden....
"in his garden that he created a 'sacred landscape'. It included a Temple of the Druids, which consisted of concentric circles of hazels and evergreens modelled on Stonehenge, an apple tree with mistletoe growing in its branches was at the centre of the circle. Apparently he also had a 'tumulus' beside the temple and a little chapel which contained a roman altar."
So one of the earliest most famous recorders of prehistoric stuff, Stukeley, was also given to fanciful thoughts, same as Iolo who as a Welsh visionary coloured his view of the world with laudanum...
