Pixie,

Glad I could help. Thinking about it, it shouldn't be too bad to do starting at Ivinghoe, it's just around the Thames sort of area they've moved the paths, erosion problems I think.

Anyway, if you're doing it in winter the barrows look fantastic!!!!, You can't see the white horses though. Shame that.

Chalk is hell to walk on when it's frozen, but I'm sure the journey will be well worth it. I did it a couple of times, once doing an overnight section - all I can say is WOW!!!! Amazing when your senses have to adjust, you feel so much more.

Good luck with it

I agree about your senses at night, i have walked to afew stone circles at night, the last one being castlerigg at summer solstice , about half past midnight when we arrived there, where we walked only about a mile or so but it was so so so atmospheric, especially hearing the drums in the distance. i try not to use a torch because you actualy see more and much better by the light of the moon or just natural light, it really does awaken your senses and makes the whole journey so much more!
thanks again for your tips, a friend has suggested how difficult it might be walking in winter, as you say but i think the atmosphere would be different too, i love winter and sites in winter, maybe its the lack of others around, and that chilly but magical touch that winter has
right am waffling now as have just experienced a nice walk, sun over the cumbrian hills makes me want to go there!! had a 'moment' and shared it with the dog, who just eat rabbit droppings in his excitement
perfect!
