wow! cheers for that, i wanted to go the opposite way ?? just because we'd planned to arrive in avebury for the winter solstice, pilgrimidge and all that,BUT sounds like it might be confusing as you say, so might be easier going 'usual' then.?

Glad I could help. Thinking about it, it shouldn't be too bad to do starting at Ivinghoe, it's just around the Thames sort of area they've moved the paths, erosion problems I think.

Anyway, if you're doing it in winter the barrows look fantastic!!!!, You can't see the white horses though. Shame that.

Chalk is hell to walk on when it's frozen, but I'm sure the journey will be well worth it. I did it a couple of times, once doing an overnight section - all I can say is WOW!!!! Amazing when your senses have to adjust, you feel so much more.
