I guess the one issue - (if you read the boards.ie archaeology forum) is the issue of metal detecting and treasure hunting. If it was published that there was something inside - how long before an illegal excavation.

Its a very thorny subject.

I would think that in most cases if a survey exposed something inside they would excavate or at least protect the site.

Yes but, my question was, is the existing technology good enough to tell us yay or nay on whether these cairns are passage graves?
