First time (and only time) I met Mick was on a "rescue dig" Open Day in West Devon in 1989 when a valley was about to be drowned by the subsequently called Roadford Reservoir. He subsequently appeared in an edition of "Time Signs" covering the story of the excavation. All these years on and Mick had the same persona of an unassuming, modest man of great experience. He clearly acquired his knowledge from a very young age because I only ever remember the man as a sage!
The world (never mind archaeology) will be a poorer place for his untimely passing
