I've used SSS for the last three summers when wild camping up in Scotland's far north, and it does the trick. No need to get uptight about the 'feminine' smell - it's used by forestry workers and the SAS. I've also found Jungle Formula spray pretty effective if you can't stand SSS. My daughters prefer it. Another thing that's supposed to work is starting to eat Marmite a week before camping..midges are apparently averse to the excess Vitamin D in sweat. Garlic is also useful if you start to eat it beforehand too. I've found SSS to be readily available in the north and west if you run out - petrol stations, general stores etc. Enjoy the trip.
