The viewing screen on the back is rather too small and difficult to use in strong sunlight, but it has close up and landscape settings and a strong digital zoom.
It's best to steer clear of digital zoom, the camera just upsizes the centre of the frame, something better done at home with Photoshop or similar. When buying, check that the OPTICAL zoom range covers the angles of view you are likely to require. The most important recent addition to compacts is image stabilisation, again, optical stabilisation is the best. It's a shame that this is largely negated by the unstable "mexican wave" holding position forced on the user by the current trend of omitting a viewfinder.

Now, the sting in the tail...it's bloody PINK!!! When I protested at the colour she said, 'I'll get you a matching handbag to go with it if you like'!
Bless her, she paid £30 in a s/h shop knowing I wanted one but didn't spend too much in case it was not what I wanted.
Right, nice day tomorrow here so up to the Hurlers to get those w/a shots in and over to Rillaton to snap away there! Yippee. I'll let you know how I get on with it and thanks for all the advice and recommendations.
