Did humans and tigers and lions ever share the same space in what became Britain?

I do like the idea of one huge reservtion for bears and wolves. Would it be worth losing the right to roam over such a large area, and the risk of escapee animals?

What is the plan, to have it like a safari, ask people to sign a disclaimer, or just bar people from the area altogether and leave it for the animals?

I realised they had a problem when I was in America and Canada when I saw people with bear fur hats, and they explained about culling. People over there accept it as a danger of wilderness walking and try to be careful I guess. I suppose here it would be a worse problem as the area of wilderness we have are probably still frequented a lot more by walkers ect than the vast areas like that over there, so chances of problems would be bad.

How close did they let you get to the bear when you were wee? I dont like the idea of wolves in our wild places, but must admit, seeing a wild bear (from a safe distance) would be cool.

I think the sabre tooths and lions mostly occupied the warmer southern end of Britain. Whether they were hunted by Man? I dunno. Scotland had so much ice up here they probably wouldn't have liked it very much. Perhaps they could be re-established in Kent or some southern county like that which is closest to their original natural environment. As people arent allowed to roam freely in England, there would be less danger than releasing them up here where people are wandering about everywhere.

Never mind the wilderness areas being used by walkers... up here people actually LIVE in a lot of the wilderness areas and would no more relish being turned off their land for a bear than for a Trump. Again, perhaps the more restricted access countryside of the Home Counties would be safest to release bears for you to see!

As for closeness to bears. At Cameron Wildlife Park the bears came right up next to the bus. As for Hercules... close enough to smell him! But he was alright... he was a pet!

my googling skills are waning, all I found was this:

Giant lions were roaming around Britain, Europe and North America up to 13,000 years ago, scientists from Oxford University have found...

...Lions appear to have been very important to early man with many depictions of them in their cave paintings, as in seen in the pre-historic cave complex at Chauvet in France.

I saw bears less than 1 feet away. Albeit I was in a car some 30 miles south of Watson Lake on my way to Alaska. Beautiful creatures! When they stand up, that is a scary sight. But wild in Scotland I don't think so...........................I'd like them, but the twats would shoot them, same for the wolves (saw wild wolves at Denali). There time here has gone BUT we should protect the environment(s) in which they still survive.
