I'm in Avebury the week before Goff, and I'd be up for the megameet too, but I've looked at that thread and can't be bothered with all the politics the fuckgubbins. It's a wade to get through that bitter thread I think.

So I'll just ask you on this thread if nobody minds, if I went to Avebury on the morning of the 1st August, do you think I would be able to find a legal spot for a small van and a tent?

Oh, I'd ignore all that bullshit on the other thread if I were you. It happens every year. Thankfully the nastiness only manifests itself on the forum - the Megameet is always a ridiculously friendly affair!

I'll email you rather than get involved in all that.

I'm sure you'd have no problem Harve, the campsite is larger now and i'd be staggered if it filled up for Lammas and if the atmosphere is anything like it was at summer solstice you'll have a great time.
Ignore the politics, go an have thi sen a ball.

Probably, Mr s, but an alternative to camping at Avebury is to camp at the Barge Inn, Honeystreet, Alton Barnes - more info here http://aveburymatters.blogspot.com/search?updated-max=2008-11-23T19%3A53%3A00Z&max-results=7 The Barge Inn is set right by the canal in the Vale of Pewsey, with Alton Priors http://www.themodernantiquarian.com/site/2233/alton_priors.html only about 10-15 minutes walk away. The drive from the Barge Inn to Avebury takes about 15-20 minutes and you'll go close to, or past, East and West Kennet Long Barrows, the Sanctuary and Silbury.

Hope you can make it to the Megameet on the 1st but if not have a great time in the area.

Oh - and if you're interested - last Sunday's Countryfile had a wee bit about wild camping - about 25 minutes in, I think! Might be of interest to you (it was a "best of" episode so you may have seen it previously. If not, it'll be on iPlayer)
