I had the occasion to drive past Stonehenge today late morning, and was pretty appalled by the amount of rubbish especially all the plastic bags caught in the barbed wire fences. Riff raff was what came to my mind. If people want to get off their faces that's one thing, I'm actually not so bothered about that, but they were only there for a few hours and if that's the amount of mess they make - doesn't show much respect for the place. Didn't really add up in my mind. I guess that connects with your comment about people getting hammered though.

I might sound like Disgusted of Tunbridge Wells. And I'm sure plenty of people there had a jolly and ecologically friendly time and didn't leave a load of crap everywhere. But I thought it was pretty disappointing to see. I like a party in a field but I don't think stonehenge on the solstice is my cup of tea thanks.

I watched the sunrise this morning from Over Owler Tor in the Peaks and saw the sun burst through in quite dramatic fashion over Carl Wark. Fantastic morning - no parking problems, no police hassle and a total attendance of one!

Funny how after all those years of hiding from police helicopters on Salisbury Plain, Stonehenge on the Summer Solstice is now the last place I want to be!
