Today, I visited the Hill of Tara to welcome the Sunrise in at 4:57am.

I had looked forward to this event all year, but what I saw really disgusted me.

I was appalled by the sheer amount of intoxicated people on the Hill, not to mention the large amount of discarded beer cans & bottle strewn everywhere.

Not only this, but those who were leading the ceremony were allowing themselves to be heckled by these people, and even engaged in religious & political arguments with those who were obviously slurring their speech through the excesses of alcohol.

Surely, something could be organised to stop this abuse of such a sacred Site.

I had the occasion to drive past Stonehenge today late morning, and was pretty appalled by the amount of rubbish especially all the plastic bags caught in the barbed wire fences. Riff raff was what came to my mind. If people want to get off their faces that's one thing, I'm actually not so bothered about that, but they were only there for a few hours and if that's the amount of mess they make - doesn't show much respect for the place. Didn't really add up in my mind. I guess that connects with your comment about people getting hammered though.

I might sound like Disgusted of Tunbridge Wells. And I'm sure plenty of people there had a jolly and ecologically friendly time and didn't leave a load of crap everywhere. But I thought it was pretty disappointing to see. I like a party in a field but I don't think stonehenge on the solstice is my cup of tea thanks.
