it seems fair to say that in order to gain respect from people jesus would have had to have done something out of the ordinary - like travel round the known world as a merchant or a sailor. Theres a popular myth that he went to tibet and gained ancient wisdom- Christians have always been into the idea of pilgrimage to places like St Andrews, Iona, Glastonbury- i wonder (wander) where that comes from? maybe he went around getting into trouble before seeing the error of his ways.
