Jesus in Wessex

I have to say, this doesn't half tickle my fancy.... http://www.eternalidol.com/?p=1339

I have absolutely no idea if there's any truth in it but I fear I'll be forced to buy the book as I want to see if there is.

In particular, I'm hoping the "specific region in the West of Britain" he's thinking of turns out to be Stonehenge (bet it is! Who wouldn't make a beeline for it when visiting the area from afar?)

The reason that would be so neat is that whatever it's original use was it would probably have changed and been lost by the time He got there but the one likely way it was probably perceived by then was as a place of healing and pilgrimage, people tend to treat ancient and mysterious places like that.

So we have the Great Healer (or maybe he wasn't until then?) visiting the great place of Healing and maybe gaining inspiration there and then deciding "to return home to embark on his famous ministry".

If the idea sprouts wings of its own, as it might well, EH could find themselves with a Dan Brown-type pilgrimage location with zillions of Christians clamouring to visit. Would they then be obliged (and duty bound?) to erect a massive white cross on top of the new Visitor Centre?

;)

... walk upon England's mountain green?

And was the holy Lamb of God On England's pleasant pastures seen?

Hardly a new idea is it? Joseph of Arimethia (sp?) was said to have gone to Glastonbury and the British Israelites did all that searching at Tara: the Stone of Destiny was said to have been Jacob's Pillow.

As there's a picture of Stonehenge on the cover I think it will definitely feature :-)

Egypt's not a bad explanation either ...

Everybody knows Jesus went to Glastonbury !

I saw him there !!

;o)

The missing years are comically chronicled in the very funny book "Lamb" (as told by his best friend Biff) by Christopher Moore

A lively yarn... check it out.

He ate pork scratchings in Tipton on his way to have a look at Callanish.
