It looks like one of the former fields, that's now Bolton Old Links Golf Club, is a barrow cemetery. They must have skimmed the tops of most of the barrows and made some bunkers and banks from the spoil. This bit of the course has got two or three holes and the same number of teeing off spots. One of the barrows, at least, is untouched and I managed to get a decent photograph of it one evening last week. The course was busy and I managed to do a bit of excavation as well. Found half a dozen more substantial stones just under moss and heather. That's what should be appearing in any archaeological magazine!
