Don't think, just sell whatever you own that might raise money (don't rule out bodily organs) and get yourself a Nikon D300 and perhaps the amazing 18-200VR lens.
I used to wake up screaming and sweating from nightmares that involved me realising too late that I had the D200 on jpeg over a weekend, the quality of photos from the D300 straight from the camera are such that this would only mean less work. Nikon have finally caught up with Fuji's jpg engine.
The tones, colours and sharpness of this camera are incredible given that it's not full 35mm frame. It's basically an upgrade to the previous flagship D2x in a smaller body, better autofocus, better high ISO's, bigger and more accurate screen, live view with autofocus (I can cancel my contortionist classes when I want to photograph inaccessible megalithic art) and less than half the price the D2X launched at. Bargain of the century :)
Do it. Do it now!!
