I am sorry I went off on rant mode a bit there, we've been waiting so long for this promised survey to materialise and with each new promise that it will be "soon", it seems to me that another bit has been lopped off...

Well here's a daft thing to consider:

The survey is to provide information on nighthawking of scheduled sites so as to push government to consider action.

But, nighthawking at scheduled sites is already entirely illegal and carries big penalties.

Incidentally, BURYING stuff in scheduled sites is equally illegal. Except in the case of a single organisation, which is specifically excluded from those provisions of the Act.
No prizes for guessing its name.

Eh? No prizes?

Maybe what is needed is a sign at each site stating exactly that - nighthawking, digging or burying anything will be reported to the authorities. It may not deter those who persist in it directly, but it may encourage people to report them.

Oh dear... and I thought I was grumpy!

Just wondring... did an employee of English Heritage who metal detects at weekends do something nasty to you with a time capsule when you were a boy? :-)
