On my first visit Avebury really got under my skin, made me think so hard about life that it threw me off all my other interests for about three months.

It's now our annual Summer getaway, and we too get withdrawal from the Downs.

Locally, I do feel the need to visit the Cumbrian circles fairly regularly too.

Spotted you leaving there on Sunday....we turned around but you then passed us heading west...

With me it is the setting rather than the site...anywhere away from civiliasation! the wilder the better....and if it includes something made of granite I am happy.
