Well obviously when I set out to defend trees on barrows I should have been on the other side of the fence ;) but sticking to my original argument, I would suspect that NATIVE shrubs and trees did not do so much damage,... your photo shows tree stumps that have been cut with a chainsaw? if the roots are left to rot they end up as a dark patch in the barrow....

Moss, I guess (or at least I hope) Colvinstown Upper is not a typical example. I don't have strong feelings about the topic either way but was quite angry at the condition the forestry workers had left the cairns in that we visited on Sunday.
