I decided to park in the Red Lion carpark instead. I paid 2 pounds for four hours which I though was reasonable.
Ah, £2 is it, memory playing tricks on me. Not bad for four hours parking though, and even better if it's refundable. Know what you mean about Avebury being a place to sit and ponder - did the same thing some thirty years ago... still pondering :-)
