I went to Avebury today to walk up to Fyfield Down with Rex (another story). I went to park in the carpark on the main road but the attendant advised me he would be closing the gate early that day. Because I would probably not be back in time I decided to park in the Red Lion carpark instead. I payed 2 pounds for four hours which I though was reasonable.
The problem I have is that if I want to go for a bit of a hike from Avebury I need to make sure I get back in time before they lock the gate or the ticket runs out. This always makes me feel a bit rushed. For a fiver I would want to be able to park as long as I liked.
Avebury is my fave place in all the world, I remember going there when I was little and the grass was left to grow long also when I was studying and squotting for exams (I used to cycle from Chippenham in those days) and always now when I need to sit and ponder things. I visit avebury at least 10 times a year (thats a lot of pondering) and a fiver then start to become a fair amount of money for us (sort of) locals.
I plan to outwit the charges though because I have told my sons to spread my ashes around the place when I die and I can be there foreever without paying a penny ;o)
