Solstice 2007

close

Strange question but I wonder if anybody could tell me exactly when Solstice is this year, some people are saying its 22nd June!? I've only ever known it to be the 21st of June. Also I'm planning on going to Avebury for the occasion - its one of my favourites - any tips on where to park, when best to get there etc...

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

The summer solstice this year is on the 21st of June. Precisely it's at 18:07 GMT.

As far as I'm aware the Summer Solstice is always the 21st June. Only the Winter Solstice moves between the 21st & 22nd December.

Solstices and Equinoxes all move date by one day in the short term and by upto two days over centuries.

Here is the best link I can find for telling people when they are in the UK (All times are GMT!):

Please disseminate it far and wide to anyone who has any wish to know these things.

Parking anywhere in Avebury will be difficult if not impossible. Having said that you might still be able to get a B&B in the area and, if you can, you should get a parking place to go with it; you'd then have to walk or take a bus into Avebury itself. Failing that you could park outside Avebury but you'd still be looking at a 20 or 30 minute walk to the circle/village itself (and you should be aware that the area is notorious for car break-ins at all times of the year).

Devizes, Marlborough and Swindon all have good and affordable accommodation - you might want to consider booking into somewhere there and then bussing or taxiing into Avebury - not ideal but a lot less hassle.
