I made mine with photoshop, you make layers that will be the 'frames' of the GIF, in the case of the one posted, there were two layers, one with markings in red, one without. Once that is done you click the very bottom button on the tool palatte 'open in image ready', its probably somewhere in the menus too. In Imageready you make sure the 'animation' selection is ticked in 'Window' and then you will see your frames (layers) in a film strip type arrangement. All you need do then is drop down the menu for the time of each frame below the thumbnail in seconds, then click file>save as optimised and give it a name.
