In Photoshop CS2 there's an animation 'thing'. It uses each layer as a frame and you can set the step time when saving. If anyone wants full instructions I can post them later.

I've recently been playing with them to create pseudo 3-D images by flicking between two slightly offset pictures. Kinda works ok if you get the two images right in the first place.

There are many little programs that create animated gifs - I'm sure someone will be able to list a few.

I made mine with photoshop, you make layers that will be the 'frames' of the GIF, in the case of the one posted, there were two layers, one with markings in red, one without. Once that is done you click the very bottom button on the tool palatte 'open in image ready', its probably somewhere in the menus too. In Imageready you make sure the 'animation' selection is ticked in 'Window' and then you will see your frames (layers) in a film strip type arrangement. All you need do then is drop down the menu for the time of each frame below the thumbnail in seconds, then click file>save as optimised and give it a name. There's tutorials on the web also if you google for animated gif, photoshop.

can be fun.....
