There are many different forms of humour - and all, perhaps, are equally therapeutic. The parish the mine is in is called Knarsdale, yet the nearest hamlet is called Slaggyford. Where did that name come from ? Could it be from that pile of slagg beside the river - just where the ancient track to the Solway crosses it ? Stranger things happen at sea, I guess. Do you suppose that guy who's trying to sell the slag from Slaggyford really wants to sell it - or is he just having a laugh at the expense of the people that live there ?
