Memory Cards

My old 1Gb CF memory card failed while I was on holiday, so I've just bought an 150x speed 8Gb memory card off ebay:

While in town yesterday I checked out the prices of cards here in Ireland. I could only find 4Gb cards .... for 550 euros!!!!

Anyway, I thought those of you with hi-res cameras would appreciate the ebay link. I'm still waiting for mine to turn up, so I'll let you know if it's a good 'un soon.

Always ascertaining first whether your specific camera can take that much memory, or whether a software/firmware update is available to permit this.

This is also well worth a try, I have been using them for stuff for years with no problems.

That sounds like a great deal, would love to see how it works out. There's a few rebranded large capacity Lexar cards finding their way onto ebay that are well known to give regular data errors but I dont think there's any affected 8GB cards.

I'm using 1GB cards and a 20GB portable hard drive with a card reader. With the D200 I get 60 RAW files onto a 1GB card and I've started forcing myself to edit the photos heavily before transfering to the hard drive or the laptop. With RAW files you can pull or push half a stop easily with virtually no effect on image quality so I only bracket occasionally and only if there's more than a stop either way. The D200 (and D70) meter is usually very accurate and predictable and I usually underexpose by 1/3 stop as a rule to ensure nice deep colours, helps being able to hand hold as well which is great 'cos I hate tripods with a passion!

Trying to keep these digital products effective in a damp tent for a few days would be an interesting exercise. But these memory cards are now the media of choice for capturing field sounds to ( http://www.d-mpro.com/users/folder.asp?FolderID=3629 ).

I never buy anything techy without trying out ebay first (other internet auction sites are available)

e.g. I got a spare rechargeable battery for my little olympus for a fraction of the price in the shop. works fine.

The card has arrived and it seems just fine. I'm off to try and fill it tomorrow. If I have any problems I'll mention it.
