How does the cokin system interact with other filters? I take it I couldn't use it in conjunction with a standard polariser? Would I need to slot a cokin polariser in?

You can put the cokin adapter ring onto the threads of the polariser, I've done it a few times but I dont like using more than one filter at a time anyway. At 28mm (18 in digital) you could get dark corners using both.
