Shall be there 31st July to 4th August (My birthday is the 1st! Lunar hoorah!)

Now.

We have a weeks worth of travelling from, the midlands.

Where in west scotland do we visit in the meantime? (We'll be getting the ferry from Uig, Skye) Bearing in mind we'll be travelling sort of a week before 31st, then a week back after the 4th... Just off the top of your heads, please, any immediate sites that spring to mind, just so's I can book caravan sites around those specific areas.

I'm struggling with the sheer quantity of sites to get through.

Any help with this is MUCH appreciated.

Kilmartin is wondrous. Loadsa old stuff, and a decent campsite:

It's a bit of a hike to get there though, due to the extreme wiggliness of the coastline, it might be worth thinking about going via Arran, the ferries are frequent enough.

From Kilmartin to Skye, if you don't mind seriously steep hairpin bends, go via Glenelg/kylerhea where the Brochs are neat, and the ferry spins about. It's prettier than Kyle of Lochalsh.

On Skye, I can heartily reccomend the Sligachan campsite:

OK this is off the top of my head...

Once past Carlisle turn left and visit Dumfries and Galloway (could even "do" Gretna here).

We were at <a href="http://www.mossyard.co.uk/">Mossyard</a> last night and the beach is <i>totally</i> wonderful - sand and rocks and shells it has the lot - they take caravans. They also have rock art near there ;)

This isn't far from <a href="http://www.themodernantiquarian.com/site/163">Cairnholy</a> which is fairly essential.

On the slightly-less-megalithic tilt there's <a href="http://www.gemrock.net/">The Gemrock Museum</a> at Creetown, lovely little place.

You can travel up past Loch Ken which has Red Kite trails, or visit the Galloway forest, good for moutain biking or walking

Ayrshire is nice too, and there's <a href="http://www.naleisure.co.uk/index.php?f=2">Vikingar</a> or even Arran...

Then up to the Erskine Bridge which is also free now - then I'd go to Loch Lomond... there are caravan sites up there should be easy to find one... here I put the usual midge warnings...
