Come to think of it, apparently it is the nations founded by adventurers, ex convicts, religious fanatics and other folk that weren't welcome anymore in their homebase that in the end conquer the world - the Greeks dumped their human debris around Rome, and look what came of it. Europe dumped its debris in North America...
now, if thàt ain't simplistic. Still... conclusion is always: the meek do *not* inherit the earth, they just get covered with it sooner.
Indeed the place of woman was much better among Celts... a bit scary to think that we ended up in this sexist mess because of some macho spaghetti-eating war- and death-obsessed nation some serious time ago decided 'twould be a nice bit of occupation for bored troups to go and decimate the population of Europe. Did you know that when Julez had swept his armies across these parts (Belgium, i.e. northern Gaul), the population was reduced to about 45% of what it had been?
Nevertheless, talking about the US... I said somewhere on this forum that in the end the Celts did prevail, for it was the mass emigrations from Scotland and Ireland that built that nation... hmmm... well, maybe it's just civilisation decandence that has settled in then...
anyway, some random thoughts; will be watching - if it's as good as his crusades series...
