Ten billion pounds, that's the 'estimate' for replacing Britain's nuclear arsenal in fifteen years time. Ten billion pounds, an almost inconceivable sum of money for weapons of mass destruction while people like you and me struggle to get funding for Stonehenge, Silbury and other historical sites (and I won't even mention the social and environmental needs that amount of money could be used for). Enough is enough, there are more important things to spend our money on than letting our heritage crumble away (or letting it get blown up).

What would you do with ten billion pounds?

Dig wells in third world countries so that women have access to fresh, clean, water no further than half a mile from their homes.

Distribute millions and millions and millions of free condoms to women in Africa.

Introduce a compulsory global programme of sex education to boys and girls from the age of eight.

Littlestone, your concern and contempt for them even contemplating wasting this amount of OUR money , on as dangerous and obscene an unknown as nuclear is beyond belief.
Why are they not putting all resources into new energy, instead of burning up old energy ,that is fossil fuels.
We are an island surrounded by water, this water is subject to new energy, every day it rises and falls, unbelievable forces cause this, all free, dependable, we are also subject to new energy from the sun, energy that we know of, and other energy that we have forgotten.
So , to answer what you ask, spend all resources on new energy, dump nuclear fast, and replace electricity as fast as possible ( that may seem odd, but I consider electricity as dangerous as nuclear)

I can't even imagine what ten billion quid IS!

I bet it could right a few wrongs in this country though, and have some change left over to help a coupla other countries outta the shit too...

Personally, I'd get the heater in me car fixed and move to Scotland. Then take you lot out on the piss at a venue of your choice.

last year US/WE spent £49billion on insurance premiums in the UK.

Nearly five times the amount mentioned by Littlestone.

If you really want to indulge in a n"oh the sweet irony" of exactly how much cash is swilling around in this country, try and google for how much we CHOOSE to spend on pet food and beauty products per year in the UK.

It should be realised people make the difference and not money. Money is just a promise to pay, whereas people can offer time and skills.

The Irainians are getting into deep shit at the moment because they wanna develop their own nuclear weapons.
We should sell trident to them for about 5 billion- they've got loads of cash. This will get them out of the shit with the UN and Junior George Bush won't get to play Gulf War IV or whatever number we're up to now.
What we should then do is pretend we've developed a new system by sending the boffins down to Tandy and purchasing a new red red button in a snazzy case for Tony to carry around. It just the same as having a picture of a rottweiller that says I LIVE HERE! next to your front door to scare the shite out of the jahovas and double glazing scallies...its a deterant

As for the Ten Billions - I'd put it into premium bonds
