Even if I will never know I need to want to know. Who knows, one day one of us just might find out :-)

Some people can walk around an art gallery and simply think, "That's nice. Like that one. Don't like that one. That one's nice. ..." etc, but I always wonder what inspired someone to paint that particular scene.

Agreed, that is why I said "will/may never know". If someone does find out so much the better, but until then I will not let it get to me and stop my enjoyment of the place.
Art is different, as it is completely subjective , but I do wonder why Picasso or Dali, or and of the other come to that , painted what they did. It is all food for thought.
