If you were given permission to take them or there are no "No Photograaphy" type signs then, assuming the permission did not state that you could not reproduce them on the web, then yes you can post them.

If you took them in a sneaky manner then probably not.

That seems right to me. On the Portal, a contributor sent us several pix of carved stone balls from a museum. We assumed that he had permission or there were no restrictions. However, the museum complained, particularly as the quality of the "snatched" photos was not as good as their official photos. I had to agree. Upshot was that we deleted about half and gave them a very prominent link to their website Everyone happy.

We had special permission from Tullie House to photograph the stones, normally they do not allow photographs to be taken without said permission. We did not mention our plan to perhaps post them onto to a web site, but stated our main interest was in prehistoric rock carvings and looking to add the photographs to OUR collection.

Any help would be appreciated again on this matter..
