OK Lovely StoneHeads - what megalithic trips/journeys to ancient sites are you planning or dreaming of doing in 2006?

I'll start the ball rolling. Moth and me are definitely going to:
Denmark & Sweden in April
Aberdeenshire & Lewis in July

and I'm still hankering after a trip to Anglesey - though nothing booked yet.

Hopefully I will be back in the Pyrenees-Orientales area of France looking at some more Dolmen around May and if all goes well back to Australia in December and another trip to Mungo.

Peace , Lubin

Hopefully off to Sardinia in March & Aberdeenshire a bit later in the year. Another one or two trips to Spain will almost certainly happen. I might see some of Ireland too :-)

You lucky gits! Denmark and Sweden are on my list for some point in the future...

I'll hopefully be able to get enough long weekends off this year to do trips to;-

Kilmartin
Lewis
Wales (yet to decide on area)
Exmoor area
Cheviots

And... er, a trip to the Cairngorms to look for the Big Grey Man of Ben Macdhui (stop laughing at the back!)...

Rollrights are first on my list, hopefully in a few weeks time.

Well foreign trips are still on the back burner for a while but I love this time of year from winter to spring with the bit of the stretch in the evenings so I have a few weekend trips in the making for around Ireland. I love revisiting sites so this year will be a mixed bag of old and new.

Tyrone: (probably next trip) Try and get some decent pics of Beaghmore, Dun Ruaidh, Creggandevensky, Altdrumman and whatever else I trip over in the area

Donegal: Gortnavern, Muntermellan, Kilclooney revisit, rock art...

Sligo: Tawnatruffaun, might actually take the tour this time at Carrowmore, see more cairns at Carrowkeel, lots to see and do around the whole area

Cork/Kerry: To see lots more rings and rows

BTW if anyones making the trip over to Ireland during April, I have an exhibition of prints on in the Newgrange/Bru na Boinne visitors centre from the 10th to the 24th, I might even give you a discount on a print if you mention TMA :)

Nothing much to report as yet, but that's never stopped me from piping up!

Let's see now...

Rempstone/Nine Barrow Down/Studland Stone Row this weekend
Cornwall at the end of February
Lewis in June or July
Cornwall again in September

I'd imagine some visits to Avebury will be in order, along with various other localish sites... We'd love to do another fortnight exploring parts of Scotland (always had a hankering to return to Orkney, but Shetland is also calling!) but not sure we can do it in the first half of the year - a week in Lewis might just have to suffice (unless I can blag a 3 week holiday! One week to get up there, stopping in various nice places, and a week back, doing the same but down the other side of the country...)

Does 2007 count? Loie can't get too far away from work this year, but we're dreaming of Catal Huyuk and Gobekli Tepe next year.

All depends if I can get myself and my campervan through our respective MOTs.

Hi, Jane,

Okay: it's stretching it a bit, but I'm deffo going here (and I'll be wearing my green tee-shirt!)

Do you think I'll be allowed to post it on here?

Been having a bit of a FW moment, and lost a bit of enthusiasm for a while...

Health and wealth allowing, we're off to Cornwall in March (and possibly April for the British Juggling Convention, but don't tell Mikki :-)), and I have a vague plan to see some of the mid/south Wales sites at some point this year.

If the opportunity arises, I'd like to squeeze in some Yorks/N'land rock art this year as well.

We had hoped to be in Malta this month, but that didn't come to fruition. :-(

A.

I hope to visit a few Cailleach hang-outs but other than that, I'll be following my nose.

I've got nothing planned as such, but I'm sure to be out at least once, or twice a week.......oh the joys of living near Ilkley :-)

Mine is in March to Solva, tend to concentrate on one area, so will look for llecha cromlech, and some of the prescelli mountain sites, plus churches as well. like Littlestone the stones/pagan religions imbedded in christianity make me very curious....

Hi Jane,

Left here on 16 Dec and just got back today from a combined trip Darn Sarf to see friends/family holiday/visiting as many sites as possible around all the social and festive arrangements.

Hurlers, Trevethy Quoit and my favourite, Duloe were frequented in the first 2 weeks, then at last I had my first trip to Stonehenge then later that day a quick peek at the Rollrights through rolling mist as I'd not been there for a good 20 years. Please can you update me on the yellow paint, I was horrified to see it looking so fresh.

Having been to Orkney and Aberdeen in August 05, that's me done for a good few months, although Callanish and the Lunar Standstill is a must.

Hope everyone had a wonderful Festive Season,

Rune

Apart from my usual esoteric Cumbrian sites, i.e. obscure old cairns and stone axe factories, I am going, with my long suffering wife, to Brittany in the first two weeks in June. We're stopping at La Trinite-sur-Mer, and Carnac, by some strange coincidence, is just a couple of miles away.

I'm following my nose to Maltese temples in April......an impulse buy partially inspired by this thread and the current BA flight sale.
I'm now off to book an appointment to visit the Hal Saflieni Hypogeum.

Because of this site, I just looked into Maeshowe.
I will stand in that place , as the moon proposes magic.

RAM '06 probably in May again :D
