Didn't realize thatch was so light Pilgrim - interesting.

Peter has suggested hide as a roofing material. Turf I think was also used in prehistoric Britain. Can't think of anything else 'organic' - 'though in some countries bark still makes an excellent roofing material.

wooden shingles, pegged to light weight trusses, as you use with tiles.
or slate tiles, if they brought the stone from wales, discount for bulk purchase, of welsh slate.
removable sections for specific luner events.
stones kept dry, for electrical properties.

Hi, Littlestone,
Interesting stuff - although I'm not convinced about the roof idea, it would be interesting to hear from someone who is knowledgeable in the various methodologies discussed; I have a nice image in my raddled head of reeds being collected by banks of the Avon to be used in the thatching process. Of course, it is a fact that some of the trilithons are not sunk very deep in the chalk, and I wopuld have thought that any technology that was able to produce 40ft-plus beams for its roof, would have an inkling of the niceties of good footings..... :-)

Peace

Pilgrim
