So where is everyone heading for the winter solstice, does anyone know or suspect any alignments in the Kildare area?

Horsenden hill....

I shall be deep in a forest grove - Gledileg Jol!

I'm going to join the swarm at Newgrange I think, Munich is organising another Winter Solstice Blitz this year starting at Baltray again I suspect so might join them there or go to Newgrange first then join the rest after that. No firm plans yet though.

One place I know I'll be heading for is Dowth for sunset, the once a year opportunity to see some of the rarest carvings in the Boyne valley.

Blake's Wood, a little way up from Paper Mill Lock, just outside Chelmsford. The sun has a low winter aspect to it there, as it glides through trunk and branch... kinda makes you wonder if it's going to make it into another year - but it does. Go back in February and it's different again - pregnant almost. Still, but no longer stopped :-)

Brailes hill for Me, where time is really set from.
moon is very close, nes pas.
and Mars is still around, Me thinks a bit special this night.
But maybe not, guns are out on hill this night ,so beware.
Perhaps to Rollright I do go.

Check this out for winter solstice!

Gray Hill.

Stonehenge...as usual....for the sunrise.

At sunset I'll be at the lighting of the Alton Barnes horse.

Not in Kildare, but how about Goseck near Nebra?

They've rebuilt the wooden pallisade and it'll be open on the 21st.

I am heading off to the seaside for xmas with the Olds, Weymouth. Finish work on Tuesday lunch and should be there around Tea time. Can anyone suggest a local site for Solstice night? I am not worried if there are no alignments.

Oh what a grey day it was here in Essex, but this is where I wish that I had gone to for the Midwinter solstice. Wow!
