I presume that Silbury Hill is made of chalk because that's what the ground is.

Chalk blocks and small sarsen pibbles used as the walling.

True nuff baza
but thornbro isn't made of gypsum. I read this thread as a question of why the henge builders of Wessex and N. yorks used the white material to create a visual effect.
