Thornborough is employing virtual reality as an integrated part of its research programme. The VRML model for Thornborough has been primarily developed as a 'proof of concept' to illustrate that virtual reality techniques can be applied to specific archaeological questions with meaningful results. In this case Glyn Goodrick and Jan Harding (2000) have analysed whether or not the Neolithic monument complex of Thornborough in North Yorkshire was orientated towards stellar constellations, many of which are known to have been so important to other cultures.
