Orion Rising

The Thornborough Henges have three alleged Orion links, so far as I'm aware.
1. The henges are arranged in a bent line, very like (perhaps 5% error) the belt stars (and like the Giza pyramids)
2. The Time Flyers programme (Nov 2003) had Jan Harding (the Newcastle Uni archeologist) and Clive Ruggles (the Leicester Uni astro-archaeologist) agreeing over how remarkable it was that Orion was framed by the south-south-west gap in the Central Henge in mid August. (Were they talking about late at night? Or about how things were 4 or 5,000 years ago?) I didn't get what they were saying (extra info seemed needed) but was impressed by how much they were impressed.
3. George Chaplin (Thornborough campaigner) recently reported Newcastle Uni (perhaps Jan Harding again) had noted that Thornborough Cursus (directly under the Central Henge) seemed to be pointing at where Orion used to set 5,000 years ago.
(All a bit third hand, but it may be worth pursuing.)

Thornborough is employing virtual reality as an integrated part of its research programme. The VRML model for Thornborough has been primarily developed as a 'proof of concept' to illustrate that virtual reality techniques can be applied to specific archaeological questions with meaningful results. In this case Glyn Goodrick and Jan Harding (2000) have analysed whether or not the Neolithic monument complex of Thornborough in North Yorkshire was orientated towards stellar constellations, many of which are known to have been so important to other cultures.

"The henges are arranged in a bent line, very like (perhaps 5% error) the belt stars (and like the Giza pyramids)"

The error is far less than 5%. More like 0.2%.

But we've talked about this before. A close match of just three points, no matter how close, doesn't give a clue to whether it's deliberate or chance.

I have a lot of doubts about any Orion Thornbro link. We are told that this is a ritual landscape and the henges are contemporary with each other. Yet when the Orion theory comes into play the other elements of the landscape are forgotten about. Yes, there is an alignment it is roughly a NW-SE alignment of six henges and a stone row, not to mention the various pits, cursus's and other henges.
Orion rises in Late september in the SSW and leaves us in mid march in the SSE, as we have seen the henges are roughly aligned NW-SE and the cursus is at 90 degrees to the central henge NE-SW therefore one of them is bound to intercept Orion at some point.
