I just emailed the pic to 4W's and was going to mail again to see if he knew where 'Bocan' was on P56/57 'cos it has very interestingly shaped stones, after searching here I found: http://www.themodernantiquarian.com/post/28619 almost an exact replica of the photo in the book except the house is more in view! Have to pencil in another trip to Donegal now...

Excellent bit of detective work:-) You'd have been a while looking for it in Cork. It looks better in the more modern photo, just looked in the book and his photos were first published in 1984. I have just broken a personal taboo and written in my copy, identifying Bocan.

Now all we need to know is the location of that amazing bit of balancing on page 11, I've seen other photographs of it but not been myself. Any ideas?

Donegal's great isn't it? my great-grandparents came to Scotland from Carrickart. only been the once, on my bike, and it was a few years ago, before I had the confidence to go traipsing through fields to look at stones. must go back!
