I believe that Swinside has a more interesting winter solstice sunrise alignment (sun rising over the SW 'entrance' stones ), while Long Meg is more aligned to the solstice sunset. (sun sets over the outlier).
Maybe you could go to both ?

By George I think you've cracked it C. Thanks to everyone for your suggestions. I was hoping to get to That Big One In Wiltshire but can't make it this time round. If I bump into any of you guys is there a secret handshake I should know about?
