>Guy Ragland Phillips' book 'Brigantia' has many a good folktale.<

I loved that book as a youngster! I used to get it out of the library for weeks on end... read it and re-read it.

I would've liked to have met the fella in person, but he died in the late 80's I think :-(
He came up with a lot of interesting ideas, sometimes fantastical ideas. But I was rivetted to it.
He somehow managed to make Yorkshire the centre of the universe. Which, of course, it is. I almost expected him to relate the tale of Jesus being a Tyke, but he never quite got that far ;-D

The Mysteriography!

There's a copy loitering on my shelf. It sits next to an old map of County Durham, which has an old way of depicting contours making part of Durham look like a great dark horse spread over the landscape, just like the one GRP couldn't quite find.

Smashing book.
